Scammers Target Rogers Customers With SMS Messages

Scammers are targeting Rogers customers with text messages offering $50 refunds, according to BleepingComputer. The Canadian telecommunications provider suffered a widespread outage last week, and subsequently announced on Twitter that affected customers would receive a refund in the form of a credit equivalent of a full day of service on their next bill. Scammers took advantage of this by sending SMS messages that purported to come from Rogers.

Krebs - NY Charges First American Financial for Massive Data Leak

In May 2019, KrebsOnSecurity broke the news that the website of mortgage title insurance giant First American Financial Corp. had exposed approximately 885 million records related to mortgage deals going back to 2003. On Wednesday, regulators in New York announced that First American was the target of their first ever cybersecurity enforcement action in connection with the incident, charges that could bring steep financial penalties.
