KnowBe4 - Bad guys use Google's Golang to cross-compile multi-platform malware

Here is the bad news:

  • The use of Google's Golang (also called Go) programming language allows attackers to cross-compile malware for use on multiple platforms, making potential attacks on Linux more trivial to engineer.
  • The new WellMess malware strain is able to operate on both Windows and on Linux, giving a remote attacker the ability to execute arbitrary commands as well as upload and download files, or run PowerShell scripts to automate tasks.

Krebs - NY Charges First American Financial for Massive Data Leak

In May 2019, KrebsOnSecurity broke the news that the website of mortgage title insurance giant First American Financial Corp. had exposed approximately 885 million records related to mortgage deals going back to 2003. On Wednesday, regulators in New York announced that First American was the target of their first ever cybersecurity enforcement action in connection with the incident, charges that could bring steep financial penalties.
