Organizations aren’t the only ones tired of data breaches. A class-action lawsuit against health insurer Anthem for their 2015 data breach comes with a hefty approved settlement.

If you’re paying attention to data breaches and their associated costs, you should be familiar with Ponemon’s annual Cost of a Data Breach report. And if you’ve read the report the last few years, one industry has a higher cost than any other – healthcare. At an average cost per record breached of $408, the healthcare industry is more than double the global average of just $148 per record.

Krebs - NY Charges First American Financial for Massive Data Leak

In May 2019, KrebsOnSecurity broke the news that the website of mortgage title insurance giant First American Financial Corp. had exposed approximately 885 million records related to mortgage deals going back to 2003. On Wednesday, regulators in New York announced that First American was the target of their first ever cybersecurity enforcement action in connection with the incident, charges that could bring steep financial penalties. First American Financial Corp. Santa Ana, Calif.-based  First American [ NYSE:FAF ] is a leading provider of title insurance and settlement services to the real estate and mortgage industries.
