KnowBe4 - Phone Scam Impersonates Sheriff’s Office Using Judge’s Name

The US Marshals Service has stated that a new phone scam is targeting residents of Marshall, Texas. The scammer claims to be from the local sheriff’s office and tells residents that the federal judge in the city, Rodney Gilstrap, has issued a warrant for their arrest. One victim told the Marshall Courthouse that an unknown caller told her that she had failed to appear for jury selection, and that Judge Gilstrap had issued a warrant for her arrest.

Krebs - NY Charges First American Financial for Massive Data Leak

In May 2019, KrebsOnSecurity broke the news that the website of mortgage title insurance giant First American Financial Corp. had exposed approximately 885 million records related to mortgage deals going back to 2003. On Wednesday, regulators in New York announced that First American was the target of their first ever cybersecurity enforcement action in connection with the incident, charges that could bring steep financial penalties.
