Confident About Detecting Spoofed, Scam Emails?

A survey by ESET found that most people think they’d be able to identify scam emails while shopping online. 87% of respondents said they felt secure while shopping online, while 73% believed they would be able to spot a phishing email impersonating an online retailer. Only 38%, however, said they felt “very secure” online. Unsurprisingly, the survey found a dramatic increase in online shopping since the onset of the pandemic.

Krebs - NY Charges First American Financial for Massive Data Leak

In May 2019, KrebsOnSecurity broke the news that the website of mortgage title insurance giant First American Financial Corp. had exposed approximately 885 million records related to mortgage deals going back to 2003. On Wednesday, regulators in New York announced that First American was the target of their first ever cybersecurity enforcement action in connection with the incident, charges that could bring steep financial penalties.
